Dr. Leander E. Keck, dean of
the Yale Divinity School, will be
the guest speaker for Atlantic
Christian College’s 78th Annual
Commencement to be held here
May 11.
Dr. Keck became dean and
Winkley Professor of Biblical
Theology at Yale Divinity School
in 1979. He was professor and
chairman of the Division of
Religion in graduate school,
Emory University, 1972-77;
served as a professor at Van
derbilt Divini^ School, 1959-72;
and was instructor in biblical
history at Wellesley Collece
1957-59.
Born near Washburn, N.C.,
Dr. Keck received the B.A.
degree from Linfield College;
the B.D. degree from Andover
Newton Theological School; the
Ph.D degree from Yale Uni
versity; and the honorary S. T.
D. degree from Bethany Col
lege.
Since 1970 he has served as a
visiting professor at Candler
School of Theology, Emory Uni
versity; lliff School of Theology,
Colorado;and Union Theological
Seminary, Manila. He has done
postdoctoral research in Tubin
gen, Germany and in Cam
bridge, England.
Dr. Keck has held numerous
lectureships since 1965. The
latest lectureships include the
Gray Lectures at Duke Univers
ity in 1979, and the Shaffer
Lectures at Yale Divinity School
in 1980. He is a member of the
American Academy of Religion,
the Society of Biblical Liter
ature, and Studiorum Novi
Testament! Sociaetas.
A number of books have been
written by Dr. Keck including:
“Taking the Bible Seriously,”
1962; "Mandate to Witness,”
1964; “A Future for the Histor
ical Jesus,” 1971; "Proclam
ation,” Series B., Pentecost 3
(with Fred Craddock(. 4^76;
“The N.T. Experience of
Faith,” 1977; ‘‘The Bible in the
Pulpit,” 1978; and “Paul and
His Letters,” 1979. He now has
two books in process. He has
edited 15 books and written 34
articles, 41 critical book reviews
and is author on numerous
addresses, papers, and curri
culum materials.
Dr. Keck has served as a
member of the editorial board
for the “Journal of Biblical
Literature.” 1970-73; was editor
of the Monograph Series for the
Society of Biblical Literature.
1972-73; served as vice-pres-
ident for the Southeastern Sec
tion, Society of Biblical Litera
ture, 1973-74, and a member of
the Editorial Council for "Inter
pretation,” 1977-80. He has
served as chairman of the
Research and Publication Com
mittee of the Society of Biblical
Literature since 1979, and has
been the review editor for Life of
Jesus, N.T. Ethics, "Religious
Studies Review,” since 1975.

Hie purpose of the fellowship
agram is to encourage aca-
fflic excellence and campus
adership by providing special
iportunities for students who
iemonstrates superior ability.
By placing the Fellows in ad
vanced programs and requiring
them to assume responsible
roles in academics and campus
positions, the college hopes to
cultivate their potential and
develop leaders of the future.
The college will appoint a
faculty Mentor for each Fellow
to allow fellowship responsibil
ities to be developed on a
one-to-one basis. In addition a
Program Coordinator will pro
vide campus-wide opportunities
and monthly leadership devel
opment seminars for the Fel
lows. Each Mentor will assist in
planning the direction of each
Fellow’s academic pursuits with
the Coordinator developing the
leadership program at the col
lege for the group.

lowship” students must make
full application for admission to

inducted into Alpha Chi national
honor fraternity this week.
Students must have achieved
no less than a 3.5 grade point
average to be considered for
membership in the organiz
ation.

Miss Barwick, a soprano, is a
graduating senior at Atlantic
Christian. Her program will
include “Fleur des Bles,” by
Debussy; “Voci di Primavera,”
by Strauss; “Belle Nuit, and
“O Nuit D’amour,” by Offen
bach; and “The Queen of
Night’s Vengeance Aria,” by
Mozart.
They will be accompanied by
Jane Sherwood and Eraina
Gardner.
The recital is open to the
Dublic free of charge.

ward graduation. Satisfactory
progress is defined as meeting
at least the minimum required
grade point average, as being
enrolled on a probationary sta
tus, or as being approved to
continue in enrollment by the
Petitions Committee.
